So here at Green Monkey we really care about sustainable living and want to make as much as a change as we can to try and live more of a plastic free life.
We have found that our bamboo toothbrushes are such a brilliant alternative to a plastic toothbrush and want to try and introduce more products to help people make the switch from plastic products easier, so we thought what else single use plastic do people use alot of and that's when biodegradable cutlery came to mind.
Plastic takes hundreds of years to break down in the environment, and it poses a threat to animals that may mistake it for food or become entangled in it. Plastic has been high on the political agenda since Theresa May launched a 25 year environment plan, which set out to eliminate all avoidable plastic waste by the end of 2042.
Some big companies are already starting to eradicate plastic from their businesses and we have seen this alot with the ban on plastic straws in many pubs and bars and the big company Hakkasan Group who have many restaurants and clubs throughout the world have also announced that they aim to eliminate all single use straws in their clubs.
The BBC also have plans that will eradicate disposable cups and cutlery by the end of the year, and containers from canteens by 2019.
The need to reduce our single use plastic is very real and all the little changes like not using a plastic toothbrush, a plastic straw or plastic cutlery will have such a huge impact.
Watch this space for our biodegradble cutlery coming soon - but for now keep brushing with bamboo :-)
